The European Championships are starting soon, and lets all hope that we give a better account of ourselves that we did in Poland in 2012. If we get any sort of positive run going, it can turn into a great occasion with the whole country getting in a party mood.
This means more people out watching the games and spending money on food and drink.
The fixture dates are 5pm Monday 13th June v Sweden, 2pm Saturday 18th June v Belgium, and 8pm Wednesday 22nd June v Italy.
So what’s on the menu for the 3 games?
Against the Swedes, it has to be Swedish meatballs in a tasty beef stock gravy, just like Ikea. For drinks, Absolut Vodka is one of the country’s best known exports. Given that it’s a Monday night, just the one will do!
For the Belgian game, we’ll get past the Belgian defence easier than getting past the many great Belgian beer choices… Amstel, Stella, Leffe, Hoegaarden, Duvel, La Chouffe, etc.. Given that it’s a 2pm kick-off and a Saturday, it’s likely to be a long day so go easy on the sampling!
Food-wise, the Belgians invented ‘frites’ way back in 1781. Frites are thicker than French fries, and crisper because they are fried twice, so much like a good hand cut ‘chipper’ chip. Looks like a takeaway on the Saturday night then.
As for the Italians, that really does open up lots of choice. Given the 8pm kick-off on Wednesday, it has to be a pizza and a couple of Peroni beers for the warm-up followed by more pizza and lots more Peroni beers after we win!
Ole… ole ole ole!
